Annual Theme

Get Wisdom: Go beyond the Gold!

Each year, a Scripture passage is selected and a theme is developed around that Scripture to make the passage come alive for the girls. Bible studies, service projects, crafts, games, and other fun activities are created to teach the truth of God's Word that is found in the theme.

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. Proverbs 9:10

How much better to get wisdom than gold, to choose understanding rather than silver! The highway of the upright avoids evil; he (she) who guards his (her) way guards his (her) life. Proverbs 16:16-17

The heart of this theme is the life lesson that we must fear the LORD. The term “to fear” can describe everything from dread (Deuteronomy 1:29) or being terrified (Jonah 1:16) to standing in awe (1 Kings 3:28) and having reverence (Leviticus 19:3). It is a shrinking back in recognition of the holiness, power, and autonomy of God and the drawing close in awe, reverence, and worship.

Sadly, Romans 3:18 accurately describes our culture today. There is no fear of God before their eyes. In neglecting to fear God and His judgment, the world has gone wild instead of wise, denying the moral standards of God’s Word and living like they did in the days of the judges where everyone did as he (she) saw fit (Judges 21:25).

When we fear God and make wise choices, we will make good decisions that protect our lives from sin and its consequences and keep us on the highway of the upright and the path of the wise. The book of Proverbs, God’s handbook on wisdom and our primary book of study for this theme, will teach us to do just that.
